THE SEARCH FOR the next James Bond may finally be over. After years of rumors circulating around who may or may not be succeeding Daniel Craig as the next actor to portray the famous spy in the long-running 007 film series, it is now being reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson will be cast in the next movie.
According to The Sun, the British actor has been “formally offered” the gig, and shooting on the new Bond project is due to begin as early as this year.
“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it,” a source claimed. “The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back… As far as [production company] Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”
The 33-year-old actor was first rumored to be in the running for the character of Bond back in 2022, when it was claimed he had attended a secret audition. “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role,” he said at the time. “I take it as a great compliment.”
Taylor-Johnson’s previous resume certainly lends itself to working on a big blockbuster franchise: his breakout role came in the action comedy Kick-Ass, he has starred in Marvel movies like Avengers: Age of Ultron and the upcoming Kraven the Hunter, and he played a British assassin in 2022’s Bullet Train. He also brings gravitas and dramatic chops to the part, having earned a BAFTA nomination for his performance in the thriller Nocturnal Animals.
And then there are his recent thirsty ad campaigns for Calvin Klein and Armani, which prove that he’s got the good looks and charisma required of a man who was known in the ’70s as The Spy Who Loved Me.
