Jessica Simpson was mistaken for Britney Spears by fan requesting an autograph

Date:

They do have a lot in common, though.

That’s not Britney, bitch — it’s Jessica Simpson.

On Saturday, the fashion mogul and Irresistible singer shared on Instagram that she was approached for an autograph in the parking lot of her local mall. The only problem is that the starstruck fan didn’t quite realize who they were talking to.

“The face when someone in the parking lot at the mall asks you for your autograph, but expects you to sign it Britney Spears,” Simpson joked, captioning a post that features her and her daughter Maxwell wearing shocked expressions for the camera.

The mix-up shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise: Spears and Simpson rose to fame around the same time, making waves as blonde pop singers in the 1990s and early 2000s. They also headlined reality TV shows with their then-significant others: Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, and Britney and Kevin: Chaotic.

Spears herself commented on their likeness in a 2022 Instagram post where she compared herself to Simpson.

“Why do I look EXACTLY like Jessica Simpson??? Also my face looks so pale,” Spears captioned a photo of herself.

Believe it or not, this isn’t even the first time that Simpson has been mistaken for the “Toxic” singer. In her 2020 memoir Open Book, Simpson addressed their at-times adversarial friendship, including a similar mix-up that took place in front of her kids at Disney World, when a fan mistook her for Spears.

“I was like, of course this would happen to me,” Simpson wrote. “Britney steals even this Disney moment, right there in front of my kids.”

Spears will release her own memoir, The Woman in Me, on October 24, which Michelle Williams will narrate in audiobook form.
