Ryan Gosling and David Leitch Talk Action Movies and Working Out

preview for Ryan Gosling & David Leitch | Trailer | Men's Health

FRESH OFF THE Oscar run for Barbie, Ryan Gosling is back with another major film: The Fall Guy. And for our Men’s Health cover, he’s alongside the film’s director David Leitch, and they’re talking all things stunts and the art of filmmaking.

In addition to going behind the scenes of the upcoming film, we also got in a few fun rapid fire questions, including their favorite action movies and meals they love to cook for their families. First up: action movies. Gosling goes for a classic, Steven Spielberg’s directorial debut Duel, while Leitch says Jackie Chan’s Police Story.

Most interesting, though is what TV shows Gosling and Leitch recommend to their friends. For Gosling, it’s the fifth season of Love Is Blind. “I heard the new season is even
better—but I’ve been busy,” he says. This makes sense, given the amount of promo he’s done for both The Fall Guy and Barbie.

For anyone unaware, Love Is Blind is a show where single people go through blind speed dating, talking in “pods” until they find someone they’re interested in. The catch? They have to get engaged, meet one another’s families, and head to the altar all within a few weeks. It’s one of Netflix’s hit shows, and it’s pretty easy to get sucked into.

Movies and shows aside, however, the two also shared their favorite meals to cook for their families. Leitch keeps it to a solid, healthy basic. “Simple protein, veg, and carb:
grilled salmon, broccoli, and rice.” On the other hand, Gosling kicks it up a notch for his wife and kids. “I make a Moroccan chicken bastilla I’m not mad at,” he says.

Finally, when asked who their heroes were, both men had heartwarming responses. Leitch shouted out his wife. “My creative partner and wife, Kelly,” he says. “We make all these movies together. I’m the director and she’s the producer, and the optics are I’m out front. But without her none of the movies would be possible creatively, technically, or logistically.”

Gosling also had an endearing answer, along with a story. “Well, Eva [Mendez], obviously,” he says. “And my uncle Bill. When I was in school, he said, ‘I’m gonna put all your achievements in a scrapbook.’ I didn’t want the scrapbook to stay empty. Uncle Bill believed in me at a time when I didn’t really believe in myself.”
