Chris Hemsworth Is Unrecognizable in Our First Look at Furiosa

preview for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga trailer (WB UK)

Warner Bros. just dropped the first teaser trailer for George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, a gritty and gnarly-looking prequel which follows the early life of the iconic character that Charlize Theron originated in Mad Max: Fury Road. Anya Taylor-Joy takes over as Furiosa in this new movie, which will be released in mid-2024.

The first glimpse we get of Taylor-Joy in this teaser clip has got fans of the Mad Max franchise excited to see more of her, but there is no getting around the elephant in the room that is her co-star, Chris Hemsworth. It’s not that the Thor star is drawing focus in the trailer exactly, although his long hair, beard, and red cape will all look familiar to fans of the MCU. Rather, it seems that the production’s efforts to make the very handsome Australian actor look more grizzled and at home in this post-apocalypticlandscape have resulted in a pretty distracting prosthetic nose and what looks like a set of false teeth.

And the internet has, predictably, taken notice, with several commentators comparing Hemsworth’s prosthetic nose to that worn by Bradley Cooper in Maestro.

Hemsworth, for his part, has spoken about how working with Taylor-Joy and director George Miller on Furiosa helped him to find his creative spark again after starring in so many increasingly convoluted Marvel projects.

“I came into that film exhausted,” he said. “I thought, ‘How am I going to get through this?’ Week one of rehearsals with [Miller], all of a sudden it was this reigniting of my creative energy… It made me think, the work isn’t what’s exhausting, it’s what kind of work it is, and how invested I am in it and if it is challenging in the right ways.”
