The incident happened close to the Eiffel Tower just prior to 9 p.m. local time (8 p.m. GMT) on Saturday.
The accused was subsequently subdued with a Taser by law enforcement officers and apprehended under the suspicion of premeditated murder, as characterized by French legislation, and "endeavoring to commit murder connected with a terrorist activity".
