In order to view this video, you must turn on JavaScript in your web browser. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka, the first wildlife veterinarian in Uganda, is dedicated to protecting the nation's threatened mountain gorillas as their environment continues to be impacted by climate change.

She is the originator and chief executive of Conservation Through Public Health, a non-profit organization that advocates for the preservation of diverse species by fostering cohabitation between humans, gorillas, and other animals, all while enhancing their health.

She has dedicated thirty years to fieldwork, contributing to the growth of the mountain gorilla population from 300 to roughly 500. This significant increase has led to their status being changed from critically endangered to endangered.

This year, Dr. Kalema-Zikusoka has made it to the BBC 100 Women list. Learn more about her and other women who are making strides in assisting wildlife to adapt to climate change in this feature.
