Channing Tatum Still Wants That Gambit Movie to Happen

Date:

preview for Deadpool & Wolverine – final trailer (Marvel Entertainment)

CHANNING TATUM’S CAMEO in Deadpool & Wolverine was one of the many well-received surprise appearances in the film. Tatum finally got to take on his dream superhero role, the card-throwing Gambit of X-Men fame, which he’s been angling to play for more than a deacde.

Gambit’s role in Deadpool & Wolverine is more than just a cameo; he shows up a good way into the film (alongside Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, Dafne Keen’s X-23, and Wesley Snipes’s Blade) as characters who have, essentially, been sent to The Void and forgotten. He provides some much-needed comic relief with a very wacky accent (and a couple references to the fact that his dream Gambit project never got off the ground before being canceled after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox), but also gets some pretty awesome fighting—that he trained hard for—in as well.

Tatum recently walked the red carpet for his latest film, Blink Twice, and gave fans some hope that a Gambit Marvel film is not entirely off the table. When the actor was asked if a Gambit movie could be in the cards, he responded, telling Variety “I sure hope so.”

“From your mouth to God’s ears,” he continued. “Write it into existence, my friend. Please.”

Tatum and his producing partner, Reid Carolin, have been chasing a Gambit project for a long, long time, even spending four years developing the film before it was axed in 2019.

The actor recently posted his appreciation to Deadpool & Wolverine producer (and star) Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy for bringing the character to the big screen.

“I thought I had lost Gambit forever. But he fought for me and Gambit. I will owe him probably forever. Cause I’m not sure how I could ever do something that would be equal to what this has meant to me. I love ya buddy. Shawn Levy as well. Truly such a brilliant creator on every single level. All things happen for a reason. I’m so grateful to be in this movie. It’s a masterpiece in my opinion. And just pure badass joy. I was literally screaming in the theater. LFG!!”
