Shanice Reveals She Underwent A Double Mastectomy Three Months Ago

Date:

R&B singer Shanice underwent a double mastectomy three months ago, and made the vulnerable confession to fans on Sunday (Sept. 8).

The “I Love Your Smile” singer, wife, and mother of two revealed that she had a “stage one one centimeter tumor in my breast” and thankfully caught it early. When she first had the procedure, she wasn’t ready to discuss it with the public, but is “strong enough” to be open now.

“Please everyone get checked,” she urged before thanking her team of doctors and herbalists who helped her get through this. She also thanked her husband, Flex Alexander, for “helping me get through the hardest time of my life,” adding, “You helped me every day with my drains and cooked all my meals. I love you. I am healed and restored in Jesus name.”

Alexander praised his wife for her strength in the comments, writing, “You handled it like a warrior babe!! I’m glad now you’re telling your story!! You are my hero.”

In one of the videos she shared of her journey, Shanice admitted she was diagnosed with DCIS in one of her breasts. Per Johns Hopkins, “Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a condition that affects the cells of the milk ducts in the breast. The cells lining the milk ducts turn malignant (cancerous) but stay in place (in situ). DCIS is an early form of breast cancer.”

Other celebs including Rebecca Crews, Niecy Nash, Tina Knowles, and MC Lyte all shared their prayers and well wishes to Shanice under the post.

The following day, the singer issued a response to everyone. “God is not done with me yet,” the 51-year-old shared before reminding women to get checked often and confessing that she’s working on new music.
