HAPPY HOLIDAYS! WHILE 2023 for Marvel Studios has been a year plagued, unquestionably, with less success than any in recent memory, that’s not going to stop them from leaving fans with an exciting end-of-calendar gift to close things out: What If…? Season 2.
If it feels like it’s been a long time since Season 1 of What If…? came out, well, that’s because it has been. Since the inaugural season of hypothetical animated superhero happenings concluded in October 2021, there have been eight MCU feature films and six seasons of MCU Disney+ television. A lot to keep up with!
But the ever-expansive (and, for some, tiring) nature of the MCU plays wonderfully into What If…? which, with each episode, tells a stand-alone story of something within this world that could have gone a bit differently. If you’ll remember back to Season 1, we saw an episode where Peggy Carter became Captain America instead of Steve Rogers, we saw a world where T’Challa became Star-Lord instead of the Black Panther, and we saw our heroes fighting back in a world overrun with zombies… and that’s just to name a few.
Residing over everything—trying his hardest to remain impartial, and rarely succeeding—is Uatu, the Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright), an omnipresent being who sees everything in every universe.

In a brand new strategy for any Marvel or Disney+ show, episodes of What If…? Season 2 will debut once per day, during the late days of December. A holiday treat! The first episode of Season 2 will come out on December 22, and a new episode will come out each of the next eight consecutive days.
