Even a cursory Google search of the inaugural Golden Globes will demonstrate that most famous women have yet to divert from the elegant, ladylike codes of traditional red carpet dressing. But there has been a notable sea shift in the kind of clothes that are deemed appropriate for men to wear: Jeremy Allen White’s transparent shirting and Lenny Kravitz’s erotically-sliced blazers. The movie stars of 1945–in all their floppy bow ties and evening jackets–likely would have baulked at Barry Keoghan’s trouser-chained Louis Vuitton suit and Timothée Chalamet’s spangled Celine ensemble, too.
