There’s Only One Way to See Argylle Right Now

preview for Argylle - Official Trailer (Universal Pictures)

FOR SOME TIME, Henry Cavill has been a frequently cited favorite to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond in the long-running 007 film series. The future of that particular franchise remains unknown, but Cavill is stepping into his own super-spy role with Argylle, director Matthew Vaughn’s latest action adventure comedy.

Cavill plays the titular spy, but if you’ve seen the trailer then you’ll already know the twist—the main character is actually Elly Conway, an anxious and reclusive author played by Bryce Dallas Howard. Elly writes a popular series of books about the exploits of secret agent Aubrey Argylle, and is shocked to learn from another spy, Aidan Wylde (Sam Rockwell), that her storylines closely mirror true events—including a conspiracy involving a shady organization known as the Division, who are now targeting her because they believe her books contain precious intel.

Argylle also stars Dua Lipa, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, Bryan Cranston, Sofia Boutella, Ariana DeBose, and Rob Delaney. And if audiences respond well to this new addition to Vaughn’s action oeuvre, it may well spawn several sequels.
