Samsung plans to use a Sony IMX sensor as the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus’ primary camera. It is said to be called the IMX890 for Galaxy and will be used exclusively by Samsung.

Everything we know about the Galaxy S24 series suggests that they will, once again, bring incremental upgrades over their Galaxy S23 (US$799 on Amazon) counterparts. That could be why Samsung plans on advertising the phones’ AI capabilities to keep prying eyes away from the otherwise lacklustre hardware. Thankfully, those who can wait a year will be pleased to know the Galaxy S25 series will bring some legitimate improvements.

@Tech_reve, a known leaker, says the Samsung Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ will finally ditch the ageing ISOCELL GN3 sensor and use one from Sony instead. While the exact model isn’t known, the same leaker hinted earlier that it could be a custom variant called the IMX890 for Galaxy. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the other hand, will continue to use Samsung’s in-house ISOCELL sensors.

As always, one should treat the above information with scepticism. The Galaxy S25 is more than a year away from launch, and last-minute changes (or cost-cutting measures) could force Samsung to pivot to older hardware. So far, the only somewhat confirmed Galaxy S25 part is its 10-core Exynos 2500 SoC, which is supposedly being developed by Samsung’s Dream Team of engineers.
