After Nothing Chats became a flop for security reasons, Beeper Mini made its debut with the promise to bring secure iMessage to Android. And even though it worked reasonably well, Apple has seemingly cut off its access to Apple servers. With this, the app that launched just four days ago went down.

Beeper Mini made its debut on Tuesday with the dream of finally bringing iMessage to Android. Well, the dream was kind of short-lived, as on this Friday, users started to face technical issues with the app. It wasn’t able to send and receive blue bubble messages anymore.

The issues around Beeper Mini started to worsen over time, with user reports beginning to pile up on the app’s subreddit. Many users weren’t able to activate their phone numbers on Android with the app. And this clearly indicates that Apple has sorted out whatever allowed the app to communicate with Apple servers.

If you are hearing about Beeper Mini for the first time, it was created by reverse engineering Apple’s own messaging protocol. Unlike the previous attempts, this app figured out a way to register a phone number with iMessage. Through this, it could send messages directly to Apple’s servers.

Previous attempts to make iMessage work on Android involved a very complex system. They required remote Macs (MacBook Air M1 curr. $799.99 on Amazon) to be logged into an Apple ID. A proper example of this is Nothing Chats, which was taken down due to security and privacy concerns. And while Beeper Mini could address these concerns, its fate will be the same as the other apps if it can’t find a way around Apple’s blockade.
