When it comes to real-world use, the Apple MacBook Pro 16 is an exceptional device as it got a “very good” rating of 94% in our review. We commended the machine for its superb craftsmanship, stellar single-core performance, and class-leading efficiency. For instance, although the M3 Pro inside the MacBook Pro 16 performs identically to the M2 Pro in multi-core workloads, we noted a single-core gain of around 20% vs the M2 Pro, putting the M3 Pro on the level of the Core i9-13905H.
The defining quality of modern MacBooks powered by the Apple M series SoCs is their class-leading efficiency and the 2023 MacBook Pro 16 with the M3 Pro is no different. In our testing, the SoC’s maximum power consumption caps out at just 27 W vs 34 W of the M2 Pro in multi-core workloads. With the increase in efficiency, it is no surprise that the MacBook Pro 16 lasted an astounding 20 hours in our WLAN test performed at 150 nits of brightness.
Finally, the 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display is also stunning, as we measured 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 gamut, an average brightness of 604 nits, and pure inky blacks.
Long story short, the MacBook Pro 16 with the Apple M3 Pro is one of the best content-creation machines on the market. Albeit still expensive at the discounted price, the $2,599 rate makes the laptop a much easier buy compared to the list price.
