Huawei is now said to have a new foldable smartphone in the works – however, its internals might remain largely unchanged compared to its Mate X5. Then again, it may stand a chance of looking different from the outside, with different proportions when closed. It is also said to be another thin and light device – albeit at the expense of another important spec.
The prodigious leaker Digital Chat Station claims to have heard that the next Huawei foldable is on the way – albeit with the same Kirin 9000S platform linked to the Mate X5. Then again, its successor might be able to stand out with a footprint entirely its own.
It might emerge as a particularly large foldable smartphone in 2024, with a cover screen bigger than that of the Mate X5. At 6.41 inches in diagonal length, the current Huawei flagship is already longer when closed than even the well-proportioned OnePlus Open.
That might be why Digital Chat Station also predicts that the Mate X6 will have a “4,520mAh” battery, a downgrade on the 5,060mAh X5: a compromise that, if accurate, may have been made for the sake of mass reduction.
Otherwise, the “X6” might look much like the X5, albeit with what might be an enlarged take on Huawei’s camera hump for premium foldables. The former is also slated to still come in purple vegan leather, although it may also introduce a new “gray glass” option.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
