Tesla has a new ad touting its bestselling Model Y’s affordability that prompted Elon Musk to comment that it is an ‘awesome car at a great price.’ The Model Y now starts from just $36,490 after federal tax credits but before state incentives and a free FSD transfer.

Tesla is pulling out all stops when it comes to marketing and selling its electric vehicles this current quarter. In order to increase the Q1 sales after Elon Musk’s “slowdown” warning that sent Tesla’s stock price tumbling 25% since the beginning of the year, the EV maker bets on a series of direct price cuts, unprecedented incentive stacking like free FSD or lifetime Supercharging transfers, and even ads.

The newest Model Y ad, for instance, is seemingly designed to remind everyone that Tesla’s SUV was the world’s bestselling vehicle for 2023, beating Toyota’s RAV4 and Corolla series for the title. Not only that, but in the ad Tesla reminds that it is becoming very affordable to own the world’s most popular car with the base Model Y price now starting from $36,490 after the federal tax credit that can now be claimed directly during purchase. With some inventory discounts and state incentives, the Model Y RWD price could go under $30,000 in the US even, a pretty amazing price point.

Not only that, but Tesla now allows incentive stacking like never before. Federal and state subsidies aside, one can take advantage of inventory Model Y discounts and, if they have purchased the Full Self-Driving option or have free Supercharging for life, both can be transferred to a new Model Y, or any other Tesla vehicle if they get delivery before the end of March.

Meanwhile, Tesla keeps going with the global price cuts and incentives. After lowering prices in China, for instance, it is now introducing Year of the Dragon offers such as free trials and transfers for the Chinese version of FSD, as well as up to 50% discounts on its options packages. In Europe, the Model Y got discounted up to 9%, and in Canada up to 6% to equal the Model 3 Highland tag and put it under a state subsidy threshold that can drop its starting price down to the equivalent of US$31,300. The Model Y just got another 5.7% price cut there, too, this time for the top Performance trim which now wiggles its way below the government’s EV price subsidy eligibility threshold.

Nothing, however, beats Tesla’s Model Y offers in the US now. While it eschews direct price cuts for now, Tesla directly lists a Model Y starting price of $36,490 with tax credit in its order boxes. By the same count, the Model Y Long Range now costs just $41,990, while the top Performance trim is $44,990 before any other inventory discounts or state incentives. Such pricing could go a long way in ensuring that the Model Y remains the world’s most popular SUV even amidst a broader EV market slowdown.
