SUPER BOWL LVIII saw the triumphant return of Usher to the world stage—not that he ever really went anywhere. The R&B star delivered a nothing-but-bangers medley during the half-time show in Las Vegas, including several of his famous slow-jams and love songs.
And according to reports, the singer may have honored a Las Vegas tradition and tied the knot with his longterm girlfriend, Jennifer Goicoechea, before the concert. Court records indicate that Usher secured a marriage license from Clark County, Nevada on Thursday, February 8. And according to TMZ, after an unforgettable Super Bowl Halftime show, Usher tied the knot and married Goicoechea.
“I have an amazing partner, a support system,” Usher told People as he was preparing for the Super Bowl. “We have an amazing dynamic between our relationship where I’m able to be passionate still about what I do and have an incredible partner to work through some of the harder times as a young man dealing with children.”
They’ve been together for five years
Usher and Goicoechea met in 2016, and were good friends for a couple of years before they finally got together in 2019, first sparking dating rumors when they were photographed hanging out at producer Keith Thomas’ birthday party. He has described her as both a romantic partner and a best friend, saying he feels “very happy” and “very fortunate” to have her in his life.
She’s a music industry pro in her own right
Goicoechea studied recording arts at Full Sail University, and has since launched a successful career in the hip-hop industry, starting her own management company Boogs’N’Effect Management. She was recognized as an R&B/Hip-Hop Power Player by Billboard in 2020 and 2021, and currently works as an A&R executive at Epic Records, a label under Sony Music Entertainment.
They have two children
Usher has two children from previous relationships—16-year-old Usher “Cinco” V and 15-year-old Naviyd Ely—as well as two with Goicoechea. They welcomed their first child together, daughter Sovereign Bo, on September 24, 2020. Then a year later, on September 29, 2021, Goicoechea gave birth to their son, Sire Castrello.
According to TMZ and People, the couple tied the knot after Usher’s Halftime Show.
People reported the singer may have actually gotten married after his Halftime show performance. If there’s a better way to end the night after an epic Super Bowl performance, we can’t think of one.
