Nerfs suck in PvE games, but it’s understandable why they happen. Recently, the newest Warframe, Dante, was released. Just over a week later, his abilities have been nerfed and the community has mostly agreed that these changes were too much.
Here are the biggest takeaways from his nerfs:
- Final Verse’s Tragedy changed to only affect enemies within line of sight
- Final Verse’s Triumph Overguard values went down from 5,000 to 2,000 at Max Rank
These two are the most significant and talked about changes to the frame out of the many others. Yes, he did receive some tweaks to make other abilities more potent. Still, the dramatic decrease in his survivability and damage output felt like it was overkill.
What changed?
Many felt that the damage output Dante had with his Slash procs and having thousands of Overguard health would be nerfed. He quickly became the jack of all trades.
Dante was essentially able to clear waves of enemies by using two Dark Verses in quick succession followed by Final Verse. Then, to essentially become invincible, he could use two Light Verses and then Final Verse to get thousands of Overguard within seconds.
With the change to Line of Sight (LoS), Dante could only affect enemies he can see. Though that was fair enough to do, this doesn’t seem like it’s taking effect as-intended. The range has been significantly adjusted, and now it seems like he can only affect enemies who are right in front of him at a short distance.
Then, with his Overguard abilities, Dante can negate status effects. He doesn’t require mods like Adaptation or Rolling Guard to help him survive. Overguard was able to be stacked upwards of 50,000 depending on Power Strength. Plus, this could be cast onto teammates, making invincible setups.
With the nerfs to Overguard, you can still rack up thousands of hit points, but the difference is very noticeable in its current state.
What happens next?
Just a day later, the staff at Digital Extremes put out a statement to correct the new Warframe’s nerfs. The changes won’t be reverted, but the lessened values will be significantly increased.
In a forum post outlined by Community Director and Live Ops, Megan Everett, she goes on to explain that the nerfs were “not implemented to our standards” and acknowledges that the changes have been “unpopular”.
Early next week, the team plans on improving the Line of Sight changes so that Dante’s Tragedy (2 Dark Verses + Final Verse) works consistently. It won’t be able to nuke rooms of enemies with ease, but it’ll still be very powerful.
They’re also going to address the Overguard gained from Light Verse and Triumph. The values won’t be as high as vanilla Dante was, but it’s a lot better than where he is right now. Hopefully, with these changes, Dante will still be the almighty caster frame who can hold his own while not being entirely game-breaking.
