GLEN POWELL HAS a thirst trap moment in Twisters, but unlike the ones that make it onto the actor’s social media accounts, this one wasn’t planned. The 35-year-old star is no stranger to showing off his ripped bod on the big screen, from shirtless dogfight football scenes in Top Gun: Maverick to sporting his abs in a swimsuit with Sydney Sweeney in romcom Anyone But You. The actor has proven to not be shy about showing off his physique, and he’ll now do so again in director Lee Isaac Chung’s storm-chasing drama.
The film will feature a scene of a drenched Powell amidst a rain storm in a white t-shirt, which the Minari director described in a red carpet interview at the film’s Los Angeles premiere with Variety as “impressionistic.”
Powell also spoke with Variety about the scene. “That was Isaac’s idea,” he said. “I did have a jacket in that scene. He said, ‘I think we’re going to toss the jacket out.’ I was like, ‘Cool.’ And he goes, ‘Also, there’s going to be a rain machine.’ I was like, ‘OK.’ But then I was like, ‘Wait a minute.’”
When asked if he did any extra push-ups for the scene, Powell said “not enough” with a laugh.
Chung has defended the inclusion of the hunky scene saying. “I thought it would be impressionistic,” he said. “When we started rolling, I realized, ‘Oh, this is what I’ve done.’ And everybody’s telling me to keep rolling. I aim to please.”
Twisters, a quasi-sequel to the beloved 1996 tornado disaster film Twister, hits theaters on July 19. The film also stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and Kiernan Shipka.
