NFL’s Chargers Stun Fans With Kiss Cam Fake-Proposal Stunt

Date:

NFL fans appeared to be thrown by a startling kiss cam segment during preseason action between the Los Angeles Chargers and the city’s Rams.

During the game that was hosted by the Chargers and took place at SoFi Stadium on Saturday, the kiss cam segment played on overhead screens in the second quarter and took viewers on an emotional roller coaster. For the final couple to be featured, a man wearing the jersey of Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua signaled for the camera to wait before he got down on one knee while holding a ring box. The stadium announcer told fans that it was a marriage proposal, leading to big cheers.

However, the fan’s girlfriend immediately did not appear ready for a lifetime of wedded bliss and appeared to tell him not to propose, leading to audible reactions of surprise from the crowd. To top things off, a different guest then appeared to collide with the jilted fan and inadvertently dump nachos and a drink on his jersey, eliciting another shocked response from the crowd.

Footage of the moment went viral on social media, with one user writing, “All-time horrendous scene at the Chargers game this evening.” Many commenters on the platform noted that the segment appeared to have been faked.

Indeed, attendees can rest assured that the fan did not actually endure a nightmare attempted proposal, as a source with knowledge of the situation tells The Hollywood Reporter that the scene was staged. The “couple” was actually portrayed by two game presentation assistants who help the team on game day. They are not actors and have full-time jobs elsewhere.

A member of the venue’s security team told THR that the stunt took her by surprise and that she had not known to expect it.

The Rams beat the Chargers 13-9 in the game that saw Rams third-string quarterback Stetson Bennett starting against Chargers backup quarterback Easton Stick. The NFL’s 2024 season kicks off Sept 5.
