Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 Is Out. But Can You Watch It?

Date:

ONE OF THE biggest legends in movie history is putting out what may just be his final film—but you may not be able to see it just yet. Clint Eastwood’s 40th film as a director, Juror #2, hits theaters this week, but due to a peculiar release strategy from Warner Bros. is being released in less than 50 theaters nationwide—with no current plans to expand in the future.

Juror #2 stars Nicholas Hoult as a family man who’s serving as a juror in a major murder trial, only to realize a major bit of information—he may be responsible for the death at the trial’s center. The movie also stars Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons, Zoey Deutch, and Kiefer Sutherland, and marks Eastwood’s first directorial effort since 2021’s Cry Macho. It also marks what’s been a little bit of a revival of the legal thriller in recent memory, after Presumed Innocent hit on Apple TV+ and The Lincoln Lawyer became a major success for Netflix (Joker: Folie à Deux was also unexpectedly a courtroom drama, but that one was hardly a hit with anyone—other than me).

While Cry Macho was underwhelming at the box office, it was also released in the 2021 era when people were still uncertain about returning to movie theaters—and with a simultaneous streaming release on (what was at the time called HBO) Max. Eastwood has worked with Warner Bros. for just about his entire career, and his films have been both box office hits (like Gran Torino) and major awards winners (like Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River, and Unforgiven) through the years. Variety‘s report on Juror #2 says that the movie was greenlit with the intention of being a streaming-first release, and we have to imagine that eventually it’ll make a major splash on Max. But it’s still surprising that the movie wouldn’t get a bigger chance on the big screen.

It’s also notable that Variety reported strong screening reactions for Juror #2; the movie also has a 91% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. All indications, as of now, are that the movie is at least pretty good.

But for some reason, you may have to wait a little bit longer to see it.

Will Juror #2 be on streaming?

Since Warner Bros. is giving Juror #2 such a limited theatrical release, it’s likely that you’ll be able to watch it at home in just a couple of weeks—likely by Thanksgiving. And then not long after that, you can probably expect to watch it on Max—perhaps as soon as Christmas.
