Rumors – legitimate ones – have it that Apple will be launching a new AI-powered wall tablet that will serve as the central control centre for its smart home appliances. The device is expected to be announced in early 2025.
All We Know About Apple’s AI Wall Tablet
The tech giant has yet to decide upon a name for the device. For now, it’s been code-named J490. Apparently, it has been under development for the last 3 years.
Since Apple hasn’t made any official comments on it, most of the details are under wraps – and much of the anticipation is conjecture.
However, according to some sources, it will have a square 6-inch screen and will be available in two colors: silver and black.
It will also feature a camera, internal speakers, and a rechargeable battery – and will run on an entirely new operating system code-named Pebble.
Speaking of the features, in addition to controlling other Apple home devices, the tablet will also have video conferencing functionalities and allow you to use AI to navigate through apps.
In all likelihood, it will work as a standalone device. However, you might need to use your iPhone for some tasks. The rest of the features will be the same as you get on a regular iPad:
- You’ll have Siri to answer all your queries
- Apps for music, news updates, and browsing the web
- A calendar and Notes app
- The photos that you take with the camera can be displayed via a slideshow
- There will also be security features that send alerts, camera footage, and access to the intercom
- Lastly, we’re hearing that the home screen will be fully customizable
We also have some information about the pricing. There might be two versions of this device. The higher-end variant may cost up to $1,000, depending on the price of the component that’s being used. For example, Apple might add robotic limbs, too, for better screen movement.
The second variant might just as well be a display-only device, which is why it’s expected to be much cheaper than the one above. We couldn’t find much about the pricing of this one, but it’s expected to be close to the pricing of Amazon’s Echo Show 8 ($150) and Google’s Nest Hub Max ($230).
It’s good to see that Apple is working on keeping its new product affordable. After all, the company was served a strict lesson by users with the Vision Pro, which the company will reportedly stop producing by the end of 2024, owing to low demand.
