As a style editor with an office job, I’m always on the lookout for professional fits that look polished, but not stuffy. That’s why one of my go-to clothing brands has been Banana Republic, which has been churning out some sharp business casual and dress clothes that are tastefully on-trend (think: slouchy trousers and corduroy jackets). Year after year, I’ve built a stable of BR suits, travel blazers, and oxford shirts that have become workhorses in my nine-to-five wardrobe. While I think BR’s price point is fair, especially for the quality you’re getting, it’s not exactly cheap. Full disclosure: Most of the sales are from the brand’s previous collections, so you’ll be hard pressed to find discounts on fair isle sweaters. But because Banana Republic’s clothes are built to be worn for years, most of these deals are very much in style. My favorite steal is the Italian Stretch-Cotton Suit Jacket, which has a sharp-but-comfortable fabric that moves with you like a second skin. Plus, it has a slim-but-not-fit, and as a five-foot-eight guy with an athletic built, I barely had to make any tailor alterations. I’ve worn this at the office and to weddings, and have gotten a fair share of compliments on it. Also on discount is the Italian Wool Straight Pant, which has a relaxed cut that’s sharp, but is not so billowy like I’m wearing clown pants. Wear this with a solid turtleneck, and you’ve got a foolproof office fit. Elsewhere you’ll find deals on more casual looks, including the Nubuck Leather Shirt Jacket and Soft Wash T-Shirt, both of which are reliable building blocks for your off-duty looks.
While Banana Republic’s style is meant to last for years, these Black Friday deals definitely won’t. So if you’re in the market to for (relatively) affordable dress clothes, now’s the best time to add them to your cart.
