“I Am Quite… Specific”: How Victoria Beckham Does Christmas

Date:

Victoria Beckham doesn’t do new year’s resolutions. Still, there’s no danger of her resting on her laurels in 2025. “I have lots of dreams and aspirations for the new year,” she tells Vogue at a festive cocktail party to celebrate 10 years of her London flagship, which has just had an incredibly chic makeover steered by VB’s go-to interiors guru, Rose Uniacke.

“I think now I can truly start building the house I’ve always dreamed of,” continues Beckham, who celebrated her 50th birthday with a fabulous party earlier this year (who could forget David giving the birthday girl a piggyback out of the function?) “Ready-to-wear is doing phenomenally well, as is beauty, and fragrance too. So now, I have a house,” she says, gesturing around at the newly olive green walls of her brand’s elegant Dover Street space. “I’ve built the foundations over the years, and I’m really excited to now really, really put my foot on the gas and do something meaningful.”

While others in her position might be happy to simply sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor, Beckham—era-defining pop star, co-founder, and creative director of her eponymous brand, mother-of-four—sounds like a woman who is only just getting started. “I always say dream big… then dream even bigger.”

But first: Christmas. VB chose a classic black suit worn over a sheer lace halter-neck bodysuit for the cocktail party, which saw Greta Gerwig and Tate director Maria Balshaw sipping smoky cinnamon margaritas surrounded by stunning antique furniture sourced by Uniacke for the store. The look was perfectly reflective of Beckham’s approach to party season dressing. “I love good tailoring,” she says. “I never like anything too complicated, I always like quite a simple but strong silhouette.”

At this time of year, then, it’s all about the accessories – be it a skinny belt with shimmering hardware, a beautiful cuff, or the “perfect evening bag,” Victoria says, brandishing the one that fit the bill tonight: a daintily proportioned Dorian in burgundy leather. “You don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard,” she notes. Rather, “easy and effortless—but cool at the same time”.

Unsurprisingly, she’s as exacting when it comes to Christmas decorations as Christmas dressing. There were no baubles or bows on the towering trees now dotted around Beckham’s Dover Street store, which were naked save for the subtlest sprinkling of lights. It sounds like the family home is a tinsel-free zone, too. “I am quite… specific… about decorations,” smiles Beckham, brow arched ever so slightly. “We have some beautiful little tea lights outside the house on our olive trees. Then just a simple Christmas tree with tea lights,” she continues, before repeating her earlier mantra: “Nothing too complicated.”
