Monica Paolini and Sean Monahan’s label is called Sea, but they’ve traditionally stuck to land and sky, aesthetically. Recent collections have included barn jackets and cardigans with quilt-inspired embroidered featuring farm animals and give-peace-a-chance jeans with applied doves. For pre-fall they dipped a toe into the life aquatic. The collection includes adorable bloomers and cropped pants with nautical button detailing and lots of looks with squared-off sailor collars—some with “SEA” embroidered or cut out at the center back.
Driving the point home, the lookbook images were photographed on a pre-war tugboat in London as well as in homey interiors that complemented the vibe of the “tablecloth” stitched frocks. A pretty crinkled pink dress with a black bow started to drift into Cecilie Bahnsen territory, but a Sea-ified rugby shirt and caped barn jacket kept things on course.
